Yoga

What is Yoga?

Yoga is one of the finest arts originating from ancient India consisting of a group of physical, mental and spiritual practices.  A regular practice can help you move your body into various positions, become more fit or flexible, improve your breathing and to relax the mind.  It can also increase the levels of stay-young hormones that can slow down the aging process.  Yoga is not dependent on faiths, belief, religion or background and can benefit anyone that adopts a regular practice!

What is Hatha Yoga?

Hatha Yoga (according to the ancient yogic Hindu text Hatha Yoga Pradipika), exists to take care of human life, health, happiness, peace of mind, and spiritual wisdom.  In this text, there are a total of 84 original asanas (physical postures), many of which have been adapted, extended or modified into various other styles of yoga.

‘Ha’ from Hatha means solar energy from the sun and ‘tha’ means lunar energy from the moon.  Our human body is made up of sun and moon energies and practising Hatha helps to bring a balance to these two energies, helping us feel energised during the day and calm and relaxed in the evening.

Why choose my private Hatha Yoga/Flow?

One to one is the traditional way of teaching yoga and allows for the holistic and therapeutic applications to be fully explored through the personal guidance I provide.  Having the higher-level qualification in Yoga allows me to teach one to one and a wide variety of capabilities, capacities and experiences.  Working individually can help diagnose muscular and skeletal issues that may not get noticed in a class environment.

These sessions are perfect for:

  • weight loss
  • those who have frailer bodies
  • advance students wishing to practise advance poses with guidance
  • those in recovery from illness
  • those who have a specific health related goal or
  • those who just feel self-conscious in a large class.

For many of us, the pranayama (breathing) techniques can be the most challenging part of a Yoga session.  In a group environment it can be hard to fully concentrate on the breath.  Working individually many people feel they can achieve a deeper sense of relaxation from the practice.

Returning to its birthplace (on a yearly basis) and learning ancient techniques (not usually taught in the British environment) I can offer something novel.

What is AJ’s Yoga?

Aj’s Yoga is an ancient practice which incorporates the Indian Hatha Yoga, Japanese Zen and Chinese Tai Chi, Yin and Qi Gong.  Depending on your requirements I will adapt and create a session using a selection or all the above practices.

A 60-minute session not only helps burn calories and tone muscles but is a total mind-body-spirit workout.  It combines strengthening and stretching poses with deep breathing, meditation and relaxation. These ancient disciplines can become part of your modern lifestyle.

Benefits of both types of Yoga:

  • Increased flexibility, muscle strength and toning
  • Improved respiration and energy
  • Helps to maintain a balanced metabolism
  • Improves cardio and circulatory health
  • Provides protection from injury
  • Reduced levels of stress and anxiety

During our first consultation I will take brief details of your medical history, diet and lifestyle.  This enables me to assess any current problems or to offer advice as to how improvements can be made to your physical lifestyle.
